As a man of faith, every time my children ask about Santa Claus I experience a small battle inside. How can I support the secular, often fun side of the Christmas holiday while still remembering the original, true meaning of the season celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ? I often considered these questions, wondering how I could give my children both a spiritual experience at Christmas time and also let them have the fun they craved. Could Santa Claus have a place in religious iconography? Could there be a logical way to explain his love for children, his long life, and let him play a positive role in the true meaning of Christmas? As I considered the implication, this story entered my mind and wouldn’t leave. It hit me so hard I had to capture it before it slipped away.
